Quick Tips:
1. Use 36 lbs. or 1 bag of Milorganite per 2,500 sq. ft.
2. Fertilize 3-4 times per year
3. If you only plan on fertilizing one time per year, fall is the best time to apply.
How do you manage a fertilizer program based on a foundation of organic, slow-release nitrogen? Below you will find the information you need to build and maintain a program suited to the type of grass you grow. For help getting your spreader set-up correctly, check the Spreader settings page.
When to Apply
Milorganite recommends a holiday schedule for ease of remembering when to fertilize. The specific holidays that you fertilize will depend on whether your lawn is
cool season grass or
warm season grass.
Cool-Season (Northern) Grasses
For grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue, Perennial Ryegrass fertilize 4 times per year.
Instructions:
Apply last application as late in the season as possible before the first deep freeze or snow fall. This fertilizer application is known as dormant feeding. Fertilizing this late in the season will allow for an early spring green up. If you are overseeding your lawn mixing grass seed with Milorganite is an effective way to spread seed.
Mix 4 parts Milorganite with 1 part seed by weight.

Warm-Season (Southern) Grasses
For grasses such as Bermuda, St. Augustine, Centipedegrass, Bahia, & Zoysia fertilize 3 times per year.
Instructions
Avoid applying fertilizers with nitrogen to warm-season grasses in the fall less than one month prior to dormancy or the average first killing frost date in your area. Several additional fertilizations can be made for winter overseedings, but only as needed to keep the overseeding green. Centipedegrass and Bahia grass prefer spring and summer feedings. Avoid late fall fertilization of these species to prevent possible winter kill.
