Milorganite

Lawn Care - Summer Maintenance

Quick Tips:

1. Fertilize (cool grasses) 4th of July
2. Let grass clippings remain on the lawn
3. Water early morning -1" of water per week or allow turf to go dormant

Mow

Continue to mow as necessary, always following the 1/3 rule.  Let grass clippings remain on the lawn (unless they are excessive). Grass clippings provide an extra pound of Nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. every season - think of it as FREE fertilizer!

Disease

Look for signs of insects and diseases in the lawn.  Search for white grubs in brown areas of turf. If there is grub damage, turf will simply peel back like a carpet, grubs feed on roots. If grub damage is present, treat with an appropriate insecticide.

Fertilize

Fertilize with an application of Milorganite around the 4th of July (cool season grasses).

Weeds

Remove weeds by hand be sure to get the entire plant and root if possible, if weeds have taken over, spot spray with a post emergent herbicide (avoid using during hot weather).

Water

Water deeply and infrequently in the early morning hours as needed. Turf requires 1” of water per week total. Or, allow turf to go dormant .
